Siemens participates with its complete environmental portfolio in China (Ningbo) Energy Conservation & Environmental Technology and Products Expo (CHNECE)
Contract signed during CHNECE to make the Beilun District Government Office Building a "Green" landmark in Ningbo
At the 2009 China (Ningbo) Energy Conservation & Environmental Technology and Products Expo (CHNECE), Siemens opened a joint booth together with SUPCON, a high-tech Chinese company with core competence in energy audit, to display the company's strong "green" portfolio in addressing the global challenge of climate change and fast urbanization. Meanwhile, Siemens and SUPCON also signed a contract with Ningbo Beilun District Government during CHNECE for an energy-saving renovation project of the Beilun District Government Office Building. The project aims to make the building a new "green" landmark in Ningbo by reducing at least 13 percent energy consumption per year after renovation.
Jointly organized by Zhejiang Provincial Government and Ningbo Municipal Government, CHNECE received strong support from the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information. Themed "Energy Saving and Emission Reduction with Innovations" this year, CHNECE is identified as a comprehensive platform to promote environmental friendly development via exhibitions, on-site trading as well as high-level forums. Over 800 enterprises from home and abroad presented their latest energy-saving technologies and showcase projects at the Ningbo International Conference and Exhibition Center with a total exhibition area of 35,000 square meters.
With a total of some 30,000 patents for environmental solutions, Siemens strongly proved itself to be the world's leading "green" giant by demonstrating many latest innovative technologies for the first time in Ningbo at CHNECE. For example, the industry sector consumes over 70 percent of China's total energy. With the help of Siemens variable-speed motors, industrial energy management could be controlled much more quickly and precisely. By adapting the motor flow rate directly to actual requirements, up to 60 percent energy could be saved, while in energy-intensive applications, even up to 70 percent energy reduction could be achieved. Another showcase technology is the Siemens Sitras static energy storage device which is able to store the energy when the vehicles are in braking mode, and make it available for subsequent use when the vehicles are accelerated. The Sitras technology could help to reduce an annual CO2 emission of about 300 tons.
"The 'green' technologies we displayed today perfectly meet the sustainable development needs of Ningbo especially in the areas of power, transportation, petrochemical, paper-making, shipping and building industries, " said Dr. Meng Fanchen, Senior Vice President of Siemens China and General Manager of Siemens Region East and Shanghai Branch. "I was here two months ago to witness the establishment of a strategic partnership on fostering an environmental society with Ningbo Beilun District Government and SUPCON. It is a great honor for me to be here again to see our commitment re-affirmed at CHNECE."
At the Beilun District Government Office Building project signing ceremony during CHNECE, Dr. Meng said, "We are very happy to join hands with SUPCON for such pilot project under the framework of our strategic partnership. This proves our strong commitment to help build up a 'greener' model society of international standard here." According to the contract, jointly with SUPCON, Siemens will conduct a comprehensive energy audit for the office building, based on which Siemens will come up with tailor-made energy-saving solutions in terms of air-conditioner renovation, heat insulation improvement, demand-controlled ventilation, energy management control system, building automation system and lighting. Upon completion, at least 13 percent energy consumption will be reduced, saving over RMB 400,000 energy cost per year.
Siemens has been a long-term and trustworthy partner of Ningbo since 1936. Today, Siemens is deeply rooted in the city and has become an integral part of the local economy. Major business segments of Siemens – including industry automation and drive technologies, power, medical solutions, building technology, lighting and household appliances – are active in the local market.
