"This project once again demonstrates Siemens' capabilities to provide solutions that meet the demand for cost-effective and reliable technologies in China," says Henrik Alt, General Manager of Siemens Water Technologies in China. "We are proud to see that this project will make an important contribution to further improving drinking water quality for Wuxi´s citizens and helping Wuxi city realize sustainable development." This is another successful case after Siemens supplied MBR solutions to Wuxi Xincheng Wastewater Treatment Plant to help improve the water quality in Taihu Lake last year.
The Memcor ultra filtration membranes provided by Siemens have a physical barrier to prevent suspended solids, microbes, bacteria, turbidity. The membrane system, which has been proven in numerous drinking water applications all over the world, can produce excellent water quality in a very compact footprint, while offering cost competitiveness compared with traditional methods of treatment.
Situated in Yangtze River Delta, Wuxi city is largely dependant on water inflow from Taihu Lake and Yangtze River. With rapid industrialization, growing population and urbanization, the water quality has been deteriorating over the past few years. Therefore, Wuxi Water Supply General Company implemented Wuxi Zhongqiao advanced water treatment project. The holistic solutions from Siemens Water Technologies will make strong contribution to the improvement of living conditions of the local citizens by helping water plant improving the quality of tap water.
Water treatment technologies and solutions are an important feature of Siemens' environmental portfolio. In 2008, revenue from the products and solutions of Siemens' environmental portfolio was nearly EUR19 billion, which is equivalent to around a quarter of Siemens' total revenue. In 2008, Siemens China announced that more than half of its EUR 1 billion mid-term investment will go to energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies and solutions.
