Siemens IT Solutions and Services leading the way by presenting sustainable IT concept at CeBIT in Germany
In the CeBIT in Hannover held from March 3 to 8, Siemens demonstrates how IT can be transformed into business value with its holistic solutions and concepts for green data centers as well as more energy-efficient systems that reduce user's carbon footprint.
Companies are confronting challenges posed by the global economic downturns, resource shortages and general insecurity at present, which make the reduction of operating cost, streamlining of business process and optimization of existing resources more crucial. In addition, many companies still believe that environmental sustainability almost always hurts the bottom line. At this year's CeBIT, the world's largest trade fair showcasing digital IT and telecommunications solutions for home and work environments in Hannover in March, Siemens IT Solutions and Services demonstrates how new IT solutions ensure the long-term business success while fulfilling the above objectives.
Using a two-stage model, Siemens IT Solutions and Services presents a concept for protecting the bottom line while conserving increasingly scarce natural resources like water and energy. During the first stage, Siemens will analyze the customer's current situation and identify areas on which to focus the improvement activities. Based on the results of the first stage, the company's consultants will set up a plan in the second stage that improves the client's financial and ecological sustainability while taking its specific requirements into account. The customer could then select the appropriate elements from the portfolio of solutions provided by Siemens.
Siemens Data Center Beijing is a good example. During the construction, Siemens adopted green IT technology as well as the intelligent use of energy and resource management, which the company refers to as "IT for Sustainability". "All in all, the new data server consumes 550 watts per server. That's roughly 37 percent less than before," said Mr. Robert Demann, CEO of Siemens IT Solutions and Services China. "As a result, we save about 600 megawatt-hours of electricity per year."
With its expertise in software solutions and IT processes, as well as the extensive experience in power and building technologies, Siemens pulls together the best practice elements needed for business sustainability and is ideally positioned to help other companies develop environmental policies of their own.
