First order for new maintenance workshop in China: Siemens provides maintenance service for continuous slab casters of Nanjing Iron and Steel Co., Ltd.

The strand-guiding rolls are important parts of the caster. It is subject to alternating thermal stress and alternating shock loads constantly, thus thermal fatigue and extreme wear of rolls are rampant. Regular maintenance of the rolls is therefore necessary to ensure smooth casting and a uniformly high quality of the slabs cast. Siemens VAI is the world market leader in the provision of maintenance services for continuous slab casters and already operates maintenance workshops in Brazil, France, South Africa and the USA. Siemens VAI's scope of services also encompasses local plant maintenance including repair and preventive maintenance, spare parts management and production and also repair and renewal of wear parts such as rolls in its own workshops.

Siemens expects around RMB 140 billion in new orders from stimulus programs worldwide

To overcome the global economic crisis, stimulus programs of around RMB 19 trillion have been announced and, in some cases, already initiated. Roughly one third of this total – or more than RMB 6.5 trillion is slated for investment in infrastructure projects. The remainder is accounted for example by tax cuts, for private households, and other governmental non-infrastructure related measures. The total volume of planned infrastructure expenditures relevant for Siemens comes to about RMB 1,400 billion globally. Given the company's current average market share worldwide, these expenditures can, therefore, be expected to generate new orders for Siemens of around RMB 140 billion, of which approximately RMB 60 billion will likely come from environmental technologies. In fiscal 2008, Siemens'  environmental technologies generated revenue of around RMB 180 billion. The company intends to increase this figure to RMB 238 billion a year by 2011.
