Siemens Transportation Systems at Modern Railways 2007: Further supporting Chinese railway industry with its strong competence

Beijing, 06 September 2007

From Sep 6th - 9th, 2007, Siemens Transportation Systems (TS), one of the leading international suppliers to the railways industry, will present its innovative full range of products and services of mainline and regional transportation at The 8th China International Exhibition on Modern Railway Equipment & Technologies (Modern Railways 2007) in Beijing. With the motto "Complete Mobility", Siemens will not only showcase its strong competence and its leading position as a single source supplier and system integrator, but also demonstrate its determination to further support Chinese railway industry as a long-term reliable partner.

In China, the challenges for transportation are growing constantly, to which, Siemens gives the answers with its forward-looking "Complete Mobility" approach. Siemens coordinates all modes of transportation, and provides complete and tailored solutions -- from infrastructure to vehicles, from planning to after-sales -- from a single source to meet specific mobility requirements. Accordingly, at Modern Railways 2007, Siemens TS will present all its expertise necessary to cover all areas of mainline and regional transportation: "High-speed & Intercity", "Commuter transport & Airport links", and "Freight & Traction", exhibiting its wide expertise, ranging from signalling and control systems to traction power supplies, as well as rolling stock.

Showcasing Strong Competence

Siemens will once again take advantage of Modern Railways to underscore its role as motor of innovations for the railway industry and demonstrate this by presenting a number of products, solutions and technologies at its stand.

By exhibiting Velaro E model, Siemens will highlight the world success of its "Velaro" Platform for High-speed rail travel. "Velaro" is a Siemens platform for high-speed trains and a development which began with the ICE 3 for Deutsche Bahn (DB AG). Velaro E is the high-speed train supplied to Spain National Railways RENFE and successfully put into operation in June 2007. Velaro E once reached speeds over 400 km/h during test trips in Spain, which makes it the fastest series-production high-speed train in the world.

One highlight of "Freight and Traction" theme is of course the world-record breaking locomotive. It is a Class ES64U4 multi-system electric locomotive that set the new world record with the travelling speed of 357 kilometers per hour in September last year.

Trainguard, Siemens' world-leading train control system technology, was applied in the world's first operational and approved ETCS Level 2 line from Berlin to Halle / Leipzig. With future-proof functional extensions, migrations and pre-equipping concepts, this flexibly scalable system comprises the equipments for all ETCS applications and also complies with TSI (Technical Specifications for Interoperability) requirements and European standards.

Siprotec@ 7ST63, the numerical protection relay, is substation secondary protection equipment in AC traction power supply system. It integrates protection, control, and measurement and automation functions together, with the features of quick responding, and being high universal. The relay possesses all functions required by overhead contact line. The device has a good reference in America, Australia, many countries in Arias and Europe.

"Green Mobility" is one focus Siemens will emphasize at the exhibition. We incorporate environmental protection into every aspect of our activities: from the development and manufacture of our products to their use and environmentally sound disposal.
